We Impact Engineering and Technology Education through NCETE
Our efforts in technology education impact the nation's ability to address future technological challenges.
The National Center for Engineering and Technology Education (NCETE) is the only center in the United States that aims to infuse engineering design into technology education. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the center's ultimate goal is to integrate engineering design, problem solving, and analytical skills into K-12 schools through technology education.
The HRE Department is one of the Ph.D.-granting partners of NCETE. Through core courses offered at the University of Illinois and other partnering universities, a community of researchers, engineering leaders, and Ph.D. professors are being prepared to train teachers to infuse engineering design into the K-12 school curriculum throughout the U.S.
In addition to impacting schools through university faculty and teacher education, the center conducts yearly professional development programs for technology teachers throughout the U.S. These innovative programs assist practicing teachers in infusing engineering design, problem solving, and analytical skills into their technology classes.
The mandate of NCETE has far-reaching national and global implications--both for the quality of high school students entering engineering programs and the sustenance of these students in completing their engineering and technology degrees. The center impacts the country’s future ability to produce engineers who can effectively address the technological challenges of a modern global society.
