Speaker David M. Rosch will give a talk called Emerging Issues in Student Longitudinal Leadership Development March 28, 2017, on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus.

Speaker Information:

David M. Rosch, Assistant Professor, Agricultural Education Program, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Formal programs designed to develop the leadership capacity of university students are almost ubiquitous on contemporary college campuses.  Yet surprisingly, little rigorous research has been conducted on the shape and patterns of such student leadership development, and what research has been done shows only an ambiguous relationship between program participation and leadership growth.

Dr. Rosch coordinates the “Illinois Leader Lab” and has been engaged with these questions during his time as a faculty member at Illinois.  This session will review some of the foundational findings conducted in Dr. Rosch’s lab, and focus on some of the current research questions engaging his work – including a study of the complex relationships between leadership skill, leader self-efficacy, motivation to lead, and social identity, and how easily measurement issues can significantly affect research findings when quantitatively measuring the effects of leadership programs on students.
