Dr. K. Patricia Cross
For the past three years, the College of Education Graduate Student Conference has been a success in part because of the generous financial support of
Dr. K. Patricia Cross!
Dr. K. Patricia Cross is a distinguished alumna of the University of Illinois and Professor Emerita at the Graduate School of Education at the University of California at Berkeley. She credits her time as a graduate student here at the University of Illinois for laying out the foundations for her commendable career, and in that spirit she has continued to make this conference possible through her very generous donation.
Her extraordinary academic career began as Assistant Dean of Women at the University of Illinois, and as Dean of Women and Dean of Students at Cornell University, after which she continued as a director of College and University Programs and also as a distinguished research scientist at ETS (Education Testing Service). Dr. Cross then served as Professor of Education and Chair of the Department of Administration, Planning, and Social Policy at the Harvard Graduate School of Education before assuming her position at Berkeley, from which she retired in 1995. She is the author of nine volumes and over 200 articles and chapters on classroom teaching and assessment, and has contributed significantly to the theory of adult higher learning.
She has been presented with 15 honorary degrees, elected to the National Academy of Education, honored with the Distinguished Career Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education, among her many accomplishments. In 1975, and again in 1998, she was recognized as One of the Most Influential Voices in American Higher Education in Change magazine polls.
Dr. K. Patricia Cross is a member of the National Academy of Education and twice served as chair of the Board of the American Association for Higher Education. She is a former board member for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the Berkeley Public Library, and Road Scholar.
The 2012 Planning Committee would like to thank Dr. K. Patricia Cross for her past and current support in helping us strengthen the community among all College of Education graduate students, faculty, and staff.
