  • Use a unique system of assessment, feedback, coaching and follow-up to empower physicians by helping them become more effective leaders.

Carle Foundation, Urbana, Illinois: 1985 to 2002
Director, Human Resource Development

A highly profitable, 2000 employee integrated healthcare system affiliated with the 300-physician Carle Clinic.

  • Successfully managed the work of an extremely, productive and creative 19-person, education department. Planned and managed a $3,000,000 annual budget.

  • Developed and implemented two complete leadership curricula, one for non-physicians and a separate one for the 300 physician leaders of a large clinic. The innovative approach of the physician curriculum is gaining national attention.

  • Directed the most productive state-accredited Continuing Medical Education Program, generating hundreds of physician CEU's annually. CME unit is nationally recognized for its excellence.

  • Developed and implemented large TQM Program. Led teams, taught instructors, evaluated program. Many measurable improvements in customer service, operating systems and thousands of dollars saved.

  • Created the vision and lead the development of a server-based computer system that delivers interactive video to all work stations with-in the organization. Most organizations are just now beginning to do this; I did it five years ago.

  • Developed and managed an in-house, adult basic education program that the Illinois Hospital Association used as the model for such programs. The Illinois Secretary of State recognized Carle for its excellence.
