My research focuses on the following topics:

- Education of Seattle's Japanese American students on the eve of their incarceration in 1942.
- Americanization and Citizenship education in the Seattle Schools, 1916-1942.
- Investigating the histories of Asian American education.
- Intercultural Education in the Classroom, 1930s-1950s.
- History of teaching methods and classroom culture.
- Democratic Citizenship Education, Americanization, and acculturation of ethnic minorities and immigrant groups in the U.S.
- Comparative approaches to democratic and tolerance education during the Progressive Era.
- History of U.S. education in the early twentieth century.
- Asian American Education.
