2. Models - utilizes a variety of sources and role models to construct work and processes of doing work.
3. Mirror - employs field and self-assessments to ascertain progress and performance regularly.
HESA and the Three Pillars of Good Work
Pillar #1 - Mission
The Higher Education Students Association (HESA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is an academic, professional, and social organization established to: 1) facilitate the academic progress of students enrolled in the University of Illinois Higher Education Program, 2) act as a forum for the discussion of issues, current events, and research related to Higher Education, 3) promote the professional development of its students, and 4) provide a focal point for social gatherings and events.

Pillar #2 - Models
Models provided and promoted by HESA include:
- Faculty-student mentoring
- Student-student mentoring
- Research and collaborative opportunities
- Program, department and college leadership student-committee representation
- Intra, inter and external networking of the program, the college, the campus and the state

Pillar #3 - Mirror
- Consult students, faculty, and staff to assess progress, highlight successes, and determine unmet needs and deficiencies
- Ensure that structure of the HESA represents and emphasizes the most important and prevailing issues in the field
