New University of Illinois Graduate Students: Complete the Graduate College ApplyYourself ™ Application
- All applications for admission are submitted to the Graduate College. The Graduate College Application is also the application for financial aid.
Current University of Illinois Graduate Students: If you have already been admitted to the Graduate College, please do not re-apply. Take the following steps:
- Fill out Graduate Student Petition (select "Change Curriculum" under REQUEST)
- Submit completed petition, along with the name of the department in which you are currently admitted, and the names of the current department head and your most recent advisor. Do not submit directly to the Graduate College.
- Submit all materials to EOL, 333 Education Building, 1310 S. 6th St. MC-708, Champaign, IL 61820, by the admissions deadline. Materials may be dropped off in person or faxed to 217.244.3378.
Former University of Illinois Graduate Students: If you have already been admitted to the Graduate College, please do not re-apply. Take the following steps:
- Fill out Graduate Student Petition (select "Re-entry" and "Change Curriculum" under REQUEST)
- Submit completed petition, along with the name of the department in which you were most recently admitted, and the names of the current department head and your most recent advisor. Do not submit directly to the Graduate College.
- Complete and submit Graduate Student Re-entry Data Form
- Submit all materials to EOL, 333 Education Building, 1310 S. 6th St. MC-708, Champaign, IL 61820, by the admissions deadline. Materials may be dropped off in person or faxed to 217.244.3378.

- Proposed Program - is always "Education Policy, Organization & Leadership"
- Degree -see the table above for degree designation. Ex. An Off-campus Master of Education would be: "Educational indexOrganization & Leadership--EDMX"
- Concentration/Field(s) of Specialization - is always "Educational Administration and Leadership" or "Ed Admin"

Prepare and Submit Supporting Application Materials
All Applicants, whether New, Current, or Former Illinois Graduate Students, MUST submit the other required Supporting Application Materials as detailed in this section.
Domestic Applicants
- Certification Information Form (doc) - Complete this Departmental form and submit electronically through the online ApplyYourself ™ application. NOTE: This form includes a personal statement, which you do not need to submit if you have already included a personal statement in the online Graduate College application.
- Personal Statement (doc) - A statement in which you provide evidence of how your professional experiences and prior academic work have focused your thinking toward the planned program of study.
- 3 Letters of Reference (pdf) - From persons who have direct knowledge of your academic and/or professional performance and potential for graduate study. If the recommenders complete this online, no additional copy is necessary.
- Transcripts - Submit official transcripts from every college/university you have attended, both undergrad or graduate, in a sealed envelope, with a certification stamp across the seal. "Issued to Student" copies are not considered official by the Graduate College. All transcripts must be sent directly to the Educational Organization and Leadership Department (333 Education Building MC-708, 1310 S. Sixth St., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, IL 61820). IMPORTANT: Even if you have course work from the University of Illinois, we still need your official transcript mailed to us. Please contact the Office of the Registrar to order transcripts or if you desire additional information.
- Current Professional Resume (Curriculum Vitae) - Please use the space provided by the only application to upload this document.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) [Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) applicants only]- General Test scores, taken within four years of date of requested admission.
- Scholarly Writing Sample (PhD and EdD applicants only) -Doctoral applicants are required to attach a scholarly writing sample, which can be a completed thesis or a research paper written in a graduate program. If the applicant does not have a scholarly writing sample, please contact the department (EOL-info@illinois.edu) for instructions regarding an assigned writing sample.
- Interviews(PhD and EdD applicants only) - Applicants to doctoral degree programs are required to have personal interviews with two faculty members. The interviews are conducted on the Urbana-Champaign campus. Applicants will be contacted by the department to arrange a convenient time to complete the interviews. For applicants who are a distance away from the University of Illinois campus, a telephone conference call may be an appropriate alternative to the on-campus interview.
International Applicants Only (in addition to the materials detailed above)
- TOEFL Score - International applicants must submit an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score report for an exam taken within four years of date of requested admission. The score must come from the testing agency, self-reported scores are not acceptable. The institution code is 1836, the program code is 00.
The department requires a minimum TOEFL score of 620 on the paper version of test (pbt); minimum score of 260 on the computer version of test (cbt) and minimum score of 105 on the Internet based test (ibt). - Declaration and Certification of Finances (pdf) - This version of the form may be completed online, except for signatures. It should be completed, printed, signatures gathered, and sent directly (either by mail or fax) to the EOL department. You may wish to save a copy to your computer. The form is also in the application, but that version cannot be completed online. The Graduate College has provided a financial worksheet to help.

Admission Criteria
The Department of Educational Organization and Leadership considers the following as criteria for admission to degree programs
- Quality of undergraduate work (for full admission into the Graduate College, a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work is required).
- Quality of graduate work
- Quality of recommendations contained in three letters of reference
- Relevance of work experience and career goals
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test scores, taken within four years of date of requested admission (PhD applicants only).
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), for applicants from non-English speaking countries. See acceptable scoring above.
- Availability of a suitable course of study and faculty advisor (PhD and EdD applicants only).
