Research Biography
My primary research agenda relates to educational leadership preparation programming. Interests within this strand include: characteristics of tenure-line and clinical faculty; leadership preparation curricula, program design, and delivery; the quality of clinical experiences in administrator preparation programming; and assessments of student performance, including students' use of evaluation portfolios.
An additional research agenda centers on the principalship, focusing on effective leadership strategies at the middle and high school levels that facilitate improved student learning. This research strand addresses how school leaders promote comprehensive building-based reforms in the following areas: the role of constructivist theory in improving teaching and learning in middle level and high schools, school scheduling models and their efficacy in supporting effective teaching-learning practices, the role of supervision and evaulation models in improving student learning, and middle level education programs and practices that are effective in improving student achievement. Leadership practices that support constructivist principles and encourage active student involvement in learning include such topics as school scheduling models, student-led conferencing, changing instructional methods, and faculty involvement in instructional reforms. My research into school scheduling approaches, and in particular the utilization of block-of-time scheduling, has led me to promote the pedagogical interrelationships between effective scheduling models and constructivist learning practices.
