Page Composition Overview

Key Concept 1: Content Document vs. Rendered Web Page

  • Author is editing files that contain components of final page. These files are called "content documents".  The author is not editing the final file given to the web browser which are called "rendered web pages ".

Key Concept 2: Properties and Inheritance

  • "Properties" are used to generate much of the web page conent. An example of a property is "Author Name". Properties are stored at the bottom of the content documents and in folder properties files.
  • Properties are generally inherited. That is if they are left empty in content file or property file, the value is inherited from the property file in the folders above. Because of this, you will want to leave properties blank unless you want to change them.
