November 15 2004 EdWebs Changes
On November 15th we rolled out some code and Content Template changes.
Accessibility Changes and HTML Cleanup
Most of the changes are not be very visible. They are some cleaning up of the html code for accessibility and adding some advanced html features for newer browsers.
Shared Assets Added
The following shared assets were added. The ability to use shared assets was added in Contribute version 3. We have developed a few and will continue to develop them as need arises.
- striped tables
- U.S. News and World Report Grad College Image
- feedback form, faculty staff directory, and faculty research interests links
- split column with graphic at top page.
- PDF Link
These are outlined at: http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/edwebs/sharedassets.html
Misc.
- images, pdf, word and other documents will often have URL http://w6.ed.uiuc.edu/... in them instead of http://draft.ed.uiuc.edu. You need not be concerned with this, the change was merely to make users not feel they were getting "draft" vesions of documents.
Advanced User Changes
menus
- 3rd level menu items are removed. This makes editing easier and server processing faster.
- the ability to set a menu section to default to open is fixed. To set a menu section to default to open, select the text of the major menu item and apply the default open node style in the styles menu.
folder properties
- unit address field is removed. It is replaced by the unit address line 1, line 2, etc. fields. This allows users to create separate lines for each line of the unit address. If you want the unit address to be one continuous line of text, simple put all your unit's address info into the unit address line 1 field.
- hide email attribute is added to folder properties.
alias template
The alias template now has more fields in it. The level 1 and level 2 menu item names are particularly useful since aliased files will likely still want to highlight menu items in their current menu.
