Are you interested in the role that the science of psychology and multiple methods of researching socio-behavioral, cognitive, developmental, and socio-cultural phenomena play in improving educational processes? If so, please see below for what we have to offer.

Department Mission

The scholarly and teaching missions of the Department of Educational Psychology are informed by two broad aims: (1) the study and application of psychological principles to develop educational interventions—collectively, faculty members realize this aim through basic and translational research that explores the cognitive, life-span developmental, social-emotional, and socio-cultural factors that affect behavior, learning, and achievement in educational contexts, and (2) research on approaches to educational inquiry and the development of quantitative, qualitative and evaluative methodologies that underpin the development of evidence-based, policy-relevant studies. The Department of Educational Psychology prepares doctoral students for professional careers as university professors, scientist-practitioners in the field of counseling, researchers, evaluators, and testing and measurement specialists.

Department Faculty

In addition to being specialists in their respective fields, department faculty are affiliated with a variety of other departments and institutes on campus, thereby creating a climate of interdisciplinary study and multiple perspectives on contemporary research in educational psychology. Other units with which the faculty in Educational Psychology are affiliated include the Departments of Psychology, Statistics, Physics, Anthropology, Educational Policy Studies, Linguistics, Special Education, and Speech & Hearing Science; the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory, the Beckman Institute, African American Studies & Research Program, the Counseling Center, and Gender and Women’s Studies.
