ECSO Job Search Timetable Checklist

        AUGUST/SEPTEMBER

________ Attend Senior Orientation Seminars presented by the ECSO.  If interested in teaching abroad, attend Peace Corps presentation.
________ Visit the ECSO to find out about resources, services, and activities of the office. 
________ Begin to target a geographical area of interest.
________   Begin identifying resources, such as the ECSO on-line Job Vacancy listing, that contain job vacancies and on-campus interviews. 
________   Begin asking references for letters of recommendations for your file. The ECSO will hold them for a full year until you establish a file. 


        OCTOBER/NOVEMBER

________   Make an appointment with the ECSO director to obtain assistance in your search and review your placement file materials. 
________ Attend workshops on Writing an Education Resume and Cover Letter presented by the ECSO. 
________   If applying out of state and/or overseas, contact the State Department of Education and attend the ECSO workshop for out of state and overseas employment, i.e., Peace Corps. 
________ Attend the workshops presented by hiring officials through Alumni Careers Speaker's Bureau program.
________ Begin developing a resume and application and inquiry letters. 
________
________
Begin networking by contacting friends, faculty members, etc. to inform them of your job search. 
Apply for teaching certification if you will graduate in December.


        DECEMBER/JANUARY

________ Check with the ECSO to confirm your file registration. 
________ Finalize your resume and identify sources to have it reproduced. 
________    Identify addresses of school systems and educational institutions in which you are interested in applying to. Addresses of school districts and colleges and universities are available in the resource center in the ECSO. 
________ Attend the workshops presented by hiring officials through Alumni Careers Speaker's Bureau program.
________ Attend the workshop on Job Search Strategies.
________ Complete applications on line.  
________ Prepare to interview with on-campus recruiters.


        FEBRUARY/MARCH

________ Send completed resume and cover letter to school districts that are of interest to you.  Send also to individual schools.
________ Attend the workshops presented by hiring officials through Alumni Careers Speaker's Bureau program.
________ Attend workshop on Interviewing and Teacher Placement Day Orientation presented by ECSO.
________ Prepare to interview with school districts that will be attending the ECSO Teacher Placement Day.
________ Research school districts who will be at Teacher Placement Day.
________ Attend Teacher Placement Day .
________ Send thank you letters to school districts with whom you interviewed at Teacher Placement Day.
________ Apply for certification if you will graduate in May.


APRIL/MAY/AUGUST

________   Before leaving campus, check with the ECSO to make sure you are registered and that your letters of recommendation have been received. 
________ Maintain contact and communication with your network of contacts. 
________ Interview off campus and follow with thank you letters. 

________

Accept the best job offer and notify the ECSO by submitting the "Employment Status Report." 
Apply in June for teaching certification if you will graduate in August.
