REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR CSA COLLABORATION SUPPORT

To promote implementation of the Strategic Action Plans developed as part of the 2005 Chancellor’s Summer Academy (CSA), and to foster the continuing relationship between the Champaign and Urbana School Districts and the University of Illinois, the College of Education is providing follow-up collaboration grants for the 2005-2006 school year. As a participating school, you may request resources to support implementation of the Strategic Action Plans you developed as part of CSA 2005.

Application Process

To apply, schools are asked to fill out the attached forms on pages 2-3. Schools are expected to come to the 2005 CSA Fall Reunion on November 19 with drafts of their requests. During the reunion, you will have the opportunity to discuss your ideas and requests with CSA staff. Each school may submit one proposal. Applications can be made anytime up to November 30, 2005. Requests will be reviewed and funded as they are received. The Technology Lending Program form on page 4 may be used at any time during the school year. Send a copy of your completed CSA Collaboration Grant application forms via e-mail or postal mail to Dianne Rothenberg at rothenbe@uiuc.edu  or at

Funding Guidelines
Funding is available for professional development partnerships and collaborations between the College of Education and the 2005 CSA participating schools in the CU school districts, for implementation of instructional strategies or programs identified in the schools’ Strategic Action Plans.  Approximately $1000 is available for each CSA school. We encourage CSA teachers and administrators to meet and coordinate with each other in preparing their proposals.

These funds may be used in a variety of ways, including (but not limited to) the following examples: to bring in University of Illinois speakers for workshops on topics related to CSA 2005; to buy out teacher time for meetings or classroom observations; to support collaboration with another school to bring in a mutually desired speaker (and thus help the funds go further); to provide ongoing consultation on technology into literacy instruction, vocabulary instruction, differentiated instruction, or other literacy-related topics; or to purchase professional or student materials and/or software (please indicate how the materials, whether books or software, will be integrated into the curriculum in support of your professional development plan.

Please note that collaboration around technology training and integration will be available to all CSA schools through the outreach staff at the Office of Educational Technology (OET) in the College of Education. OET staff can provide workshops and training for a modest fee (contact 244-7005 for more details). In addition, technology resources can be borrowed at no-cost through the CSA loaner program.  See the attached Technology Lending Program form for more information.

Each proposal should provide a statement describing the professional development activity or materials requested, explaining how the requested training or materials will help the school meet the goals stated in its Strategic Action Plan, and detailing how teachers will collaborate with College of Education personnel to integrate and implement the continuation activities.

We are eager to assure that the CSA schools have the resources needed to implement their Strategic Action Plans. We look forward to working with you during the school year.
