EdWebs: The College of Education Web Publishing System

In 2002 the College of Education decided to redesign its web site. The goal of the project was not only to redesign the look of the site, but redistribute the editing, training, and support responsibilites for web publishing. Content editing would be put back in the hands of departmental staff who best knew the content. Training and support would be moved away from the programmers to the college's computer support and training network. The project also sought to unify the look and navigation of the site throughout "official" college sites including departments. It was also time to retool much of our web architecture to newer standards such as XML, XSL, XHTML, and CSS. The project's wide scope and resulting upheaval was welcomed after several years of accumulated web content at the College: it was a clean slate for content, design, and programming. It also came during budget cuts and a reorganization of the college's Office of the Chief Information Officer.
