EdWebs Overview

What is it?

EdWebs is a web publishing solution that combines the Editing workflow of Macromedia's Contribute software and the content management features of a locally developed web application.

Why'd we do it?

Overall goal: To empower those responsible for content so they don't have to rely on technical staff to update web pages.  Likewise, to enable technical staff to focus more on truly technical matters...or in some cases, to reduce demand for technical staff.

Why this solution?  We reviewed several Web-Content Management Systems but they were either exorbitant, not user friendly, or not well suited for our environment.  John had already demonstrated proof of concept with a prototype page manager.  Contribute came along at just the right time.

What has it meant?

• We have a tool/workflow that is easy for end users.
• We don't have to maintain/document the Contribute side (the end user side) of the solution.  Lots of training materials available too.
• Some departments get it...and the people responsible for content are now editing pages.  Some units still hire GAs to edit web pages.
