Submitting a Trouble Ticket
(244-6053 or email)
Information you can provide to help us help you more quickly:
- Your Network ID (e.g., what precedes the @ symbol in your uiuc email address)
- The Network ID of the primary user of the machine with the problem (if not you)
- The machine's UI inventory number (a 6 digit serial that usually begins with a G).
- The number of the trouble-ticket if this is a follow-up call
- Data jack number if the problem is at all related to networking
Things to know about the process that will help you understand what other information may be helpful:
- If you are in our Faculty/Staff database, your contact information will be automatically drawn from that source into the trouble ticket. If you are not faculty or staff, or the problem is not in your listed office, be sure to provide the appropriate location & contact information. Regardless, confirming location & contact information is always a good idea.
- Be sure to get a trouble-ticket number so we can easily refer to the ticket when you call back. Without it, efficiency of service is sure to decline due to the likelihood of missed communications and/or redundant data entry.
