Connecting to College of Education Servers from a Windows 95 or 98 Machine

Note: If you have trouble connecting to the servers (especially from off campus) after trying the instructions below, please try installing the CITES VPN Service. For more information, please visit our Clients Outside Of Campus page.

1. If possible, log onto your computer with your UIUC Active Directory (AD) Account . This is not required though it will make access easier. If you cannot log in, press cancel to proceed.

To log in with your AD account: When you start up your computer you are prompted to log in. Use your AD login and password and make sure that the Domain field contains UIUC. If this login process fails, please press cancel.

3. From the start menu, select run.

4. Type the name of the server you are connecting to in the Open box. In the example below we are connecting to www.ed.uiuc.edu , the College web server, by typing \\www.ed.uiuc.edu . You may also type in the share name you are accessing (such as \\www.ed.uiuc.edu\wwwroot or \\files.ed.uiuc.edu\users ) to go directly to your share. See College Servers and Names for a list of servers in the College of Education.

Type in the appropriate User name, password, and press OK.  If this does not work, contact the User Services at 244-6053 and a troubleshooter will be dispatched to help you.

6. Navigate to the share you need access to by clicking on directory icons.
