Clients Outside of Campus
For client machines outside of the UIUC campus network, we recommend UIUC users use the CITES Virtual Private Networking (VPN) service in order to access the College of Education servers. The CITES VPN service offers the following benefits:
- Secure & encrypted connection to the UIUC network
- Client machines appear as though they are on the campus network
- Simplifies instructions & troubleshooting for connecting to servers through dial-up or broadband connections
- Works through most port blocking filters that local ISPs may implement
Once connected to the VPN service, users can follow the instuctions listed under Connecting to College Servers for their appropiate operating systems. To download the latest VPN client and installation instructions, please visit the CITES VPN service site.
Note: If you installed the VPN 5000 software, you must uninstall it before installing the newer VPN 3000 software. With that in mind, the new CITES VPN is the preferred method over the VPN 3000 for connecting from off-campus. However, CITES does not recommend removing the VPN 3000 software.
