WHAT IS HAPPENING & WHEN?
---------------------------------------------------
Starting at approximately 5:00AM on Tuesday, November 20, CITES will begin replacing key components of the Education Building network as part of the larger Campus Network Upgrade Project. This will result 1) in a brief, early-morning network outage for the entire building and 2) a longer outage for the South half of the building* which may extend well into business hours.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME OR OTHERS?
---------------------------------------------------
During this event, your computer in the Education Building may not be able to access network resources – especially if your computer is in the South half of the Education Building* where the duration of the outage will be greater.
1) For remote users (those outside of the Education Building trying to access network resources from the Education Building), we expect the outage to be very brief and to have services available before 8am.

2) For users in offices in the North half of the building*, we expect to have network connectivity restored by 8am or soon after.

3) For users in offices in the South half of the building* the outage could last the full business day. It is likely, however, that most if not all connections will be restored well before the end of the business day. If things go without a hitch, connectivity could be restored between 8-10am. If only some delays are experienced, connectivity could be restored between 10am and 1pm. If technicians experience unexpected challenges, the outage could last the full business day. A follow-up to this email will be sent when full connectivity is restored.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?
---------------------------------------------------
Users with offices in the South half of the building* are encouraged to work with their supervisors and unit heads to identify strategies for dealing with the outage.

WHERE TO GET HELP OR INFO?
---------------------------------------------------
For general questions about the network outage please reply to this message or contact User Services in Room 1 or at 244-6053.

* Only data jacks with labels starting with “HC” (representing “Hub C” in the South of the building) are affected by the longer outage.
