On Campus Program: Practicing Teachers Seeking Advanced Certification (LBSII) or Master’s/Post-master’s Degrees

In attempting to address the increasing need for teachers who specialize in content related to working with students with behavior disorders and those with challenging behavior, the State of Illinois offers an advanced certificate (Learning and Behavior Specialist II) to practicing professionals who hold an Illinois Type 10 LBSI certificate. These teachers will have the opportunity to return to the University on a full- or part-time basis for a master's degree to become Behavior Intervention Specialists. This program is one of only two in the state providing LBSII certification in this area of specialization. Practicing special educators in the LBSII program are supported by grant funds with tuition stipends, or are eligible to receive tuition and fee waivers through the University by serving as a cooperating professional.

General education teachers interested in obtaining a masters degree in special education to increase their knowledge and skill in better managing instructional and learning environments for students included in their classrooms also are invited to apply. General educators wishing to specialize in behavior intervention meet the same requirements of the LBSII candidates, but will receive a masters degree only.
